The Breakers Hotel has a special place in my heart. Besides being the very first place, my Grand Mother worked when she first came out to California the 1940s it was the last place we went out to dinner on Thanksgiving in 2012 it is also one of the most beautiful buildings in the city located in what may be one of the most central locations. Previously owned by Conrad Hilton and is still home to one of the most delightful restaurants in town, The Sky Room.
The hotel has unfortunately been mostly dormant for the last few years after a long run as an assisted living home and has been one of the most underutilized properties in town. It has now been bought by Pacific6 a private group of investors led by John Molina former COO of Molina Healthcare to turn it into an independent hotel.
I'm confident the re-development of this iconic building will fill what has been a dark space in the heart of our city. Furthermore, I appreciate that the project is being taken on by a local group as this property has such rich local history and appeal, especially to me.
